NEXUS is Canada’s Trusted Traveler program that allows members to expedite entry across the US – Canada border by land, air and sea. All NEXUS applicants undergo stringent background and security checks by customs and border authorities in Canada and the United States. Every successful applicant must attend a compulsory interview at an enrollment center of their choice. All APEC card applicants must apply for NEXUS before they can be accepted onto the APEC program. Applicants who do not reach this stage or who do not pass the interview will be denied an APEC card. FPC will enroll any APEC applicants who are not already NEXUS members onto the program free of charge (except for the $50 government fee).
NEXUS is open to the following citizens regardless of age (although applicants under 18 must have the consent of a parent or guardian):
- Canadian nationals and permanent residents
- United States nationals and permanent residents
- No criminal record, immigration or customs violations
Fast Track Access
NEXUS kiosks are available at all major airports in Canada. Members can also use the Global Entry lanes at leading airports in the United States. At land crossings, NEXUS card holders should use the designated NEXUS lane, but ensure that all members in the vehicle including children have a NEXUS card.
NEXUS is a Trusted Traveler program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in Canada. Each membership card is valid for 5 years. Applicants must be in possession of either a machine-readable passport or permanent resident card. At airports, program participants proceed to NEXUS kiosks, present their machine-readable passport or permanent resident card, place their fingertips on the scanner for fingerprint verification, and make a customs declaration. The kiosk issues the traveler a transaction receipt and directs the traveler to baggage claim and the exit. Members may be selected for further examination when entering Canada or the United States. Any violation of the program’s terms and conditions will result in appropriate enforcement action and revocation of the traveler’s membership privileges.
